Myrmoborus leucophrys

White-browed antbird / Myrmoborus leucophrys

Myrmoborus leucophrys is also known as the white-browed antlion.
The genus name ‘Myrmoborus’ is composed of the Greek words ‘murmos’, meaning ‘ant’, and ‘borus’, meaning ‘to devour’, while the species name ‘leucophrys’ is composed of the Greek words ‘leukos’, meaning ‘white’, and ‘ ophrus’, meaning ‘eyebrow’.

The Myrmoborus leucophrys, also known as the robust or short-tailed antbird, is a handsome bird with a uniform plumage. Although they all inhabit the forests and woodlands of eastern Ecuador, they are separated by habitat and rarely come together. Measuring approximately 13.5 cm, they are frequently found in the undergrowth of secondary woodlands.

This species was found in the morning, at the very top of a cave within the Amazonas Protected Area, near the community of Rukullakta in Archidona.
