Field Study 2024

The following field study, conducted in 2024, aimed to identify fauna species within the Amazonasschutz area located in the Rukullakta community, Archidona. This work was carried out by biologist David Mantilla over a four-day period, from April 14 to 18, 2024. The techniques and instruments used for data collection on the fauna species are outlined below:

  • Mist nets
  • By installing mist nets in various sectors of the Amazonasschutz conservation area.

  • Camera traps

Data collection sectors:

Installation of mist nets in various areas of Amazonasschutz, for example:

Area 1 – Path leading to the Llushian River;

Area 2 – Path leading to the cave;

Area 3 – Near the house and the cultivated area;

Area 4 – Near the water tanks;

Area 5 – Upper path through the forest.

Data collection activities:

Each mist net was positioned in different sections along the route. They were checked every 30 minutes as the team moved from one location to the next. Upon capture, the species was quickly released unharmed, photographed, and the time and location of the find were recorded.
The mist nets were not left in place at all times; they were removed at 8 pm once the recording of nocturnal species had been completed.

David Mantilla spent four consecutive days surveying the Amazonasschutz area. The photographs taken during this wildlife survey were taken between 14 and 18 April 2024. We would like to thank David Mantilla for his successful work in collecting scientific data in the field and for identifying bat species. We would also like to thank Jefferson García, an ornithologist at the University of Vienna in Austria, for his assistance in identifying bird species. Below is a list of the species recorded.
